UPDATE! Nikki Powell

I hunt on her fathers land. They don't have much, but they do have faith and love... Nikki was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia back in June... She is in Kentucky undergoing Chemo Treatments and needing to come home to Enterprise, Alabama...

I put a banner ad up requesting donations as I get more info I will post it...

We will have a Jar at the Dothan Show, if you see it please help this family out...

Update!!

Yesterday I was very proud to be able to give Ken $250.00 we raised here at AtifactsGuide and at the Dothan Show. This added to the total they raise with the Poker Run of $4000.00!!!

All I can say is God is Great....

Ken will be leaving this afternoon to Kentucky. Nikki is having surgery in the morning and they are planing on beginning her move home after the 1st of September... When I get updates, I will pass it on...

UPDATE!!!

Talked to Ken tonight, Nikki has moved back and had her first session of Chemo at UAB last week. Good news is she will be able to start he next sessions of treatment in Dothan from now on and will only have to travel to UAB for evaluations.
They are still looking for an apartment for her, but with these strong first rounds of Chemo she cannot stay by herself anyway, so the hunt is not that important at the moment.

I will see them this Sunday afternoon and get more of the story and update you on the progress....

Ken wanted me to express his shock in the generosity all of you have shown. He is taken back by the outpouring compassion and support from people he does not even know. In his words...

Thanks cannot even measure against what total strangers have done for my family and I words cannot express the feeling I have inside for each one of you, I feel I have received a miracle... Thank you and God Bless...

I stopped by and saw Ken today... He just returned from UAB last night. Nikki did not have a good week. On Tuesday she got to experience her first ambulance ride.

She had to receive 2 units of blood and then caught a 103 fever... Her Doctor said get her to B'Ham ASAP, Her ANC numbers were almost non-excitant. They came back up temporally then shot back down again yesterday, her 21st birthday...

Ken again send his thanks for all of your concerns and donations, most of all everyones prayers. These are very hard times for them and they have to take it day by day. He is allot stronger than I would be, if either of my sons were to have to go through this, I would be dissemulated....

There will be good days and bad days to come. Doctors think it will be a year before any remission will begin, so please keep this family in your prayers....

I was just thinking about Nikki and Ken the other day. I feel so bad because once deer season started I've been so distracted.

I will make it a point to this weekend to check in on Nikki, I pray that no news has been good news...

Again I want to thank everyone that has had Nikki on their mind and in their prayers, I owe it to all of you to keep you informed, I apologize for for failing to do so...

Unfortunately there is not any good news, so continue to pray... Nikki still has 4 major sessions of Chemo to do through. Each session is 4 days long of intense doses. Then she waits for 21 days to do it again. So it looks like it will be June or July before the next evaluation.

Ken and Bonnie are still in good spirits and Nikki is getting tired of it all, and I can't blame her. Poor thing said that as soon as she starts feeling good again, it's time for the drip and it starts all over...

Keep her in your prayers and I will do my best to keep everyone updated...

I can't imagine what the Powell's must be going through. I have a 20 y.o daughter and it pains me to even think about it! God bless them all!!!

Years ago one of my sisters lost her daughter Kimberly to leukemia. The cancer was diagnosed when she was 6 and she fought valiantly for 7 years through the pain and sickness of chemo treatments, platelet injections, ect. At the end Kimberly was so weak she told her mother she was too tried to go on any longer.
I hope and pray I never have to endure the pain that comes with the death of a child. Ill be praying for Nikki.
