Hello all
Im in a bind here and need some ID help. Any of you hunt NCF and find the grainy non heat treated chert that is often associated with the kirk culture and the citrus culture? When heat treated the grainy appearance often diminishes or vanishes. It is often semi to fully tranclucent (thermaly altered or not) and can contain extremely small fossils the same size as sand grains or slightly larger and are ovular/round. I am not refearing to Rice Grain. My question is basically whether this chert is local to NC Fl specifically (Alachua/Marion County) and if it hails from the Ocala Formation like the Rice grain or somewhere else? It is very common around Orange Lake. Another way to describe it is that it looks like RG without the fossil foraminifera.
Thanks for any info
