Folks, I got to tell you that this is one of the most worthwhile things I have been a part of in a long time. I am hopeful that we can have long term support for the TSAS scholarship fund and award 3 per year for perpetuity.
Whatcchall think about naming the scholarship something like the TSAS Haddock-Broome Scholarship Fund ?
To honor of course a couple of folks wthat have done a LOT for the hobby - Henry Haddock and Hugh Broome ?

It's time to be thinking about scholorships again. It looks like we will have enough money to award two $500.00 scholorships this year. These awards will be given out at the Bainbridge, Ga. show in May. Please e-mail me if you need applications. The applicant must be a child or grand child of a TSAS member to be elligable. The applicant also needs to be a senior in high school or attending college. Thanks and good hunting this year.

Time to talk about scholorships again. We have enough money for two $500.00 ones to be given away at the Bainbridge show. We have received a $100.00 donation towards another one. We need to raise $400.00 more so we can give away three. Lets see some auctions or donations so we can reach our goal of 3 per year. Donations should be made out to TSAS and mailed to;
TSAS
PO Box 865
Eufaula, Al. 36072
If you are not a TSAS member you must join to be elligable for your children or grandchildren to qualify. Adult membership is only $15.00 per year and $5.00 per year for youth.

R Reed was telling me the other day a recap on some of the good things TSAS has done since its inception about 10 years ago.
Richard can give more specific details but a few that I remember were:
$3000.00 in Scholarships awarded
$7500 in legal defense in an artifact related case
and several other good causes.
Maybe Richard can give us a breakdown.

The local chapter of the NWTF gave away a local $500 scholarship last night at their Turkey Federation Banquet. I am very proud that our society is able to do 2-3 $500 scholarships per year. I know the NWTF here has some deep pocketed members and large support so we dont have to hang our heads. I am very proud of the good we have been able to do, thanks to the generosity of many.

It's time to bring up this thread again. We will be giving our scholarships away at the Dothan show on Aug. 20, 2011. We have received 2 applications and 2 more are on the way. That will be a total of 4 applications. First of all, I would like to thank David Leonard for his kind donations to the Broome/Haddock Scholarship Fund. The shark tooth raffle raised 1,000.00 and his duck print donation raised 100.00 for the fund. We have received 450.00 more in donations in memory of Hugh Broome. That gives us 1550.00 in the fund. We need to raise 450.00 more dollars and then we can give 4 scholarships instead of 3. How many other artifact related societies give away $500.00 scholarships? It is a great program.

On behalf of the members and supporters of TSAS - Thank you soooo much for the really nice thank you!
I can not think of anything more worthwhile of investment than the youth of the artifact community. I was sooooo impressed today with the quality of the recipients and the potential of such bright minds and the awesome families represented.
I am confident that Uncle Henry and Mr. Hugh both smiled today, and said something along the lines of "Way to go TSAS and best of luck Scholars as you begin one of the greatest chapters in your lives. We are so proud of you!"
PS, I must admit that for some reason, I Got a little teary eyed myself during the presentations today - SO PROUD TO BE A SMALL PART OF THE TSAS SCHOLARSHIP FUND!

Dear TSAS Members,
I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the TSAS Scholarship Fund! I truly thank each and everyone of you from the bottom of my heart for enabling me to further my future and education for the better. I would also like to say that I had a truly awesome time this weekend being there at the Dothan show with my father; David Leonard.
My plans for the scholarship fund money that I received this past Saturday is to use it for books as well as the costly school supplies. I will be attending Chattahoochee Valley Community College and majoring in General Studies. My plan is to transfer to a 4-year college and finish whichever major God wants me to pursue. My first day is actually tomorrow and I couldn't be more excited!
Thank you all for the awesome opportunity! I can guarantee that this will definitely be a blessing to me as well as my family!
Sincerely,
Donald Leonard

I'm extremely grateful for this scholarship. The expense of college is pretty immense, and five hundred dollars helps greatly. I very much appreciate the organization being so thoughtful and taking the time to gather the money. It is an honor to be a recipient and I plan to put the money to the best use.
Thank you all so much,

I am really proud to be a part of the TSAS Broome/Haddock fund. I was kind of teary eyed myself as they were presented by two really great ladies. I know that there were two great big smiling faces looking down from heaven. Thanks to all who helped make this possible. David Leonard has donated a great frame of shark's teeth and arrowheads to be given away next year. Kevin or I will get a picture on the board for all to see. Tickets will be $1.00 each. Send donation for tickets to;

Sorry so late in posting this photo. This is an awesome display donated by David Leonard. All the proceeds will go to the TSAS scholarship fund. BTW, we had two very generous donations from Mike Buhler and Hank Haddock to the Scholarship fund. We now have almost 2 Individual fully Scholarships funded for 2012! Thats incredible!

Went to visit Jack Wingate today. Jack has stage 4 cancer and hospice has been called in. It was so good to visit with Jack but I hated to see him unable to get out of bed (since Sept 1st). Please keep Jack in your prayers. His family would very much appreciate it.
I was just thinking, what would yall think about expanding the TSAS scholarship to the Broome-Haddock-Wingate Scholarship?
Jack is an AVID collector and a great ambassador for our hobby. Jack attended the 2008 and 2009 Bainbridge show and as always, he made sure he spent the time training young people about early Americans and the tools/customs of their time. If anyone I EVER knew invested time in YOUTH (with his summer camps and artifact expeditions with lots of young fellers into newly formed Lake Seminole) and LOVED our hobby - It is Jack Wingate. He hosted several artifact shows in the 70's down at the Wingate Lunker Lodge. When the negative legislation started up in Georgia, Jack made several well placed phone calls to members of the legislature and told them he wasnt a bit happy about it.

Thanks much Gutz! I am sure TSAS leadership will need to approve but it doesnt hurt to "run it up the flag-pole" so to speak.
By the way, due to unprecedented generosity of some very kind folks, we have already raised over $1000 towards the 2012 Scholarship Fund! Just a month after we awarded (4) $500 scholarships to Tri State Youth!

Kevin we gave away a total of 4 scholorships at $500.00 each this year. How many other artifact related society's have done this? And like you said, we have already raised enough for 2 next year. I think the Bainbridge show will be a great place to give them away and also to draw the winner of the shark tooth and arrowhead frame raffle. Only one dollar a ticket.

I agree Scott. It would be an awesome thing to be able to tell Jack, he would be sooooo proud. As current V-P, maybe Inkamiah could walk this thing through the "Senate and House" and get it done , if the general concensus is to proceed.
